Grub Worms!
Grubs are a root-feeding headache. New preventative products have given us more tools to help in the battle. Grubs are the immature (larval) stage of beetles. Beetles lay their eggs 1 to 2 inches deep in the soil and the eggs hatch in 2 to 4 weeks. Young grubs feed on grass roots immediately. Turf rolls back like carpet, turns yellow and dies quickly.
Treatment
Apply Diazanon -late April to mid-May and Mid-August to October.
Cinch Bugs!
If you notice circular yellow patches in your lawn, which look worse in the center, suspect chinch bugs. Spread the grass apart with your hands, and look for small red and black bugs.
Treatment
Rake the entire infested area and apply Diazanon - be sure to follow the handling and application directions. Diazanon can be purchased at most gardening centers in Lake Mary.
Tree Removal Requires Permit from the City!
The City of Lake Mary requires the issuance of a permit to remove, replace or relocate a tree in your yard. The process requires that you meet a set of conditions. Click here to access the entire city code that details landscaping and arbor regulations.
When you plan to plant, remove, replace or replant a tree, attach your permit to the Architectural Review Request Form and submit it to Specialty Management Company for Manderley Board to approve.
